Celestina Popa-Toma -- Kindergym Program Coordinator
Celi attended the Sport School in Bucharest from 1989 to 1991. She graduated from
University with a degree in Physical Education in 1994. She received the Master of Sports in Gymnastics in
1987. A very important gymnastic move (jump straddle full turn) is named after her - The "Popa". She has
obtained the National Romanian Coaching Certification Level III. Celi has been coaching since 1991 and has been
with Flicka since 1994.
In 1984 she was placed second at the Romanian Nationals at Junior Level and then went on
to make the National Team. From 1984 until 1989 Celi was a member of the National Women's Romanian Gymnastics
Team. In 1985 Celi was a member of the team at the World Championships in Montreal where they won a silver medal.
Also in 1985, she was the All Around Champion, Vault and Beam Gold Medallist at the International
Chunichi Cup in Japan. In 1987, Celi was part of the team who won the gold medal at the World
Championships in Rotterdam, Holland and in 1988 she was a member of a Romanian team who won the
silver medal at the Olympics in Seoul, Korea.
Danica Vuk
Danica came to Flicka in 1977. As a child growing up in Croatia (Europe) she
started at an early age to participate and compete in her favourite sport, gymnastics. She began
coaching gymnastics while attending university in Croatia. She came to Canada in 1968 and settled in
Toronto. She moved to Vancouver in 1974 and from that time until 1977 she taught gymnastics, rhythmic
exercises, yoga as well as special classes for adults in various clubs, schools and recreation centres.
Danica enjoys passing on her experience to young athletes and coaches, and her own children and
grandchildren.
Danica competed as a Competitive Gymnast in Croatia for many years and was a
folk dancer/singer with the very well known Ivan Joran Koveci Assemble group. She graduated as a Yoga
teacher in Val Morin, Quebec. Her gymnastics qualifications include the N.C.C.P. Level 3 Theory,
Artistic Gymnastics and she has qualified as a Level 2 Trampoline coach. She is a fully certified
Level 2 N.C.C.P. coach. She has completed a First Aid course through St. John's Ambulance. She has
choreographed many of Flicka's Annual Displays and also choreographs for the Croatian Folk Dance group
in Vancouver. She was a course conductor at a conference for recreation coaches and spoke about
"Toddler and Preschool Time". Danica was also a member of the organizing committee for the first
BC Gymnaestrada and went on to participate in 6 Gymnaestradas.
Stacey Berg
Stacey has been with Flicka since 1997. She is a qualified Level 2 instructor
and also has a Level 1 Trampoline coach certification. She likes doing gymnastics because it involves
power, strength and flexibility. She enjoys passing her knowledge and appreciation of the sport on to
children. Flicka is a fun place to teach at because of the friendly staff and the big foam pits!
Sarah Howe
Sarah start coaching at Flicka in 2002 and she has completed Level 1 NCCP
certification and Level 1 Trampoline. She loves gymnastics and thinks it is very important to involve kids in the sport.
Bars is Sarah's favorite event.
Christina Lane
She has completed her NCCP Level II Gymnastics and Trampoline. She likes the
floor event best and also is a kickboxing athlete and coach.
Adrienne Cafe
She has completed her NCCP Level I theory and technical.
I coach because I love the sport and allot of my previous coaches where so great
when I was younger so by being a coach now, I can do the same for other kids.
Charlotte Mah
She has completed her NCCP Level I.
I find that coaching it's fun and rewarding way to teach kids. It's great to
watch a gymnasts progress as they improve their skills.
Alita Feenstra
Level I certified.
Working for Flicka from 2004 - present, Level IV Provincial Athlete.
I love competing and share my experience with de gymnasts at recreational level.
Susy Lamb
Level I Gymnastics certified.
Working for Flicka from 2003 - present.
I love to coach because I love to do gymnastics myself as well. Also, I enjoy to watch children enjoy de sport as much as I do.
