Flicka Gymnastics Club

Volunteer Program

Flicka is a non-profit, parent participation organization, run mostly by the members, who are the gymnasts and their families. Flicka gymnast training fees go to the coaches salaries. The club budgets coaches salaries, and hires coaches based on the number of gymnasts, and the number of hours they train. When you enroll your child at Flicka you are required to make a commitment to pay for the full months fee each month over the season, whether or not your child attends all classes each month. This ensures that the club has enough money in the budget to pay enough coaches for each training group. You are also required to submit post dated cheques for all 10 months of the season when you register your child in September.
When you enroll your child/gymnast in the competitive program at Flicka you are also required to participate in the running of the club as a volunteer in some capacity. The purpose of this agreement is to encourage equal and fair volunteer participation from all competitive families.
Flicka also has a Volunteer Committee which was formed to help encourage and expedite equal and fair participation of all competitive families. The committee looked at the co-ordination of volunteers and has made some minor changes to the organization of volunteers. Below is a summary of the procedure that will be followed.
    How the volunteer program works:
1. Each family is required to earn a minimum number of volunteer hours. The number of volunteer hours you are required to earn is based on the number of hours your gymnast trains each week. The volunteer agreement form, which is available here, must be completed and returned to the office.

HIGHEST WEEKLY TRAINING HOURS X 2 = VOLUNTEER HOURS REQUIRED FOR THE YEAR (For competitive ). ADD 5 HOURS EACH FOR 2ND, 3RD, 4TH , CHILD ETC.

2. Volunteer Commitment Cheque: Each family must submit a volunteer commitment cheque, which is a post-dated cheque, dated 30 June 2006, with their registration, as an assurance of commitment.

VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT CHEQUE WILL EQUAL 1 MONTH TRAINING FEES FOR COMPETITIVE GYMNASTS

*This cheque will be cashed only if the family does not fulfill it's volunteer hours. The post-dated cheque will be returned after June 30th, 2006 when your commitment is complete.
3. Group Reps: To help make this system work each competitive training group will have a designated group representative. The group rep will:
  • Ensure that each family in their group is aware of the volunteer requirements.
  • Ensure that the hours worked by each family in the group are recorded.
  • Help call the families in their group when volunteers are needed for an event.

  • 4. Recording Your Hours: The hours worked by each family will be recorded on chits, which are filled out after you have completed hours. These chits, (forms) will be available at the office, from your group rep, or in the gym and here too. You record the date, your family name, the number of hours, and a brief description of the job e.g. {scoring at Flicka Invitational (4 hours), or Clean-up and equipment set-up Feb 24th-26th (3hours).

    5. Volunteer Opportunities at Flicka: Flicka has a wide range of volunteer opportunities that need to be done. There is something for everyone from baking cookies, to fundraising, to equipment maintenance. See the Volunteer Opportunities sheet for a list and description of volunteer opportunities at Flicka. A list of volunteer opportunities is available [here].
