Competitive Coaches
Our Competitive Program offers Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics teams for kids and adults from 6 years of age onwards. While developing a high skill level and training to excel in competition is an end goal, our underlying philosophy is about pursuing personal excellence. Coaches support gymnasts in reaching their goals and achieving success at the level that’s right for them.
Our Competitive Program is run by highly qualified coaching staff. Under their direction, team members can train to compete at a Provincial, National or Elite level, depending on their age and ability.
Who is this program for? Gymnasts who are interested in learning high-level gymnastics skills, competing, and who have been invited to join due to their skills, work ethic and commitment.
Entry into our Competitive Program is by invitation only. Assessments are held in the spring and are by invitation only.
Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Program
The main objective of the Competitive Program is for athletes to reach top rankings provincially, nationally and internationally. Our Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Program trains girls for three levels of competition: Provincial, National and High Performance/Elite.
Flicka Gymnastics Club follows the Women’s Junior Olympic Program, which is based on the idea that all athletes must have a solid foundation of basic skills in order to advance safely.
Each category and level of gymnastics competition has certain skill requirements. The score of a routine is arrived by at determining firstly whether the skill requirements have been met by the gymnast and secondly by the form and perfection displayed by the gymnast in the execution of those skills. Accordingly, each gymnast will be placed in the competitive level best suited to her/his skill level, form, and maturity. The Head Coach will assign each gymnast to a category and level which will be challenging yet allow her/him to experience individual success.
All gymnasts progress at different rates; according to age, physical growth, maturity, etc., therefore, not all gymnasts can progress from one level to the next at the same rate. However, even within the same level, each gymnast who trains seriously is expected to progress and experience increased personal success. The placement of gymnasts in competitive levels is the sole responsibility of the Head Coaches.
We place our athletes in training groups according to their age, ability, number of days committed to training per week, and their competitive goals. These goals are set in consultation with their coaches and the options open to them at their age.
Competitions: Provincial level competitions are governed by Gymnastics BC.National and Elite competitions are governed by Gymnastics Canada and they provide opportunities for interprovincial and international competition. Gymnasts who compete at this level train for many hours and have a high skill level. Their goals may include joining Team Canada!
Who is this program for? Girls with a strong work ethic who enjoy competing, want to develop high-level gymnastics skills, and who are committed to training between 3 and 5 days per week. The WAG Program is by invitation or assessment only.
How do I register? Programs run year-round, depending on age. Admittance into the program is generally for a summer start.
Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) Program
Our Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) Program is one of the biggest in Canada, and it trains boys for three levels of competition: Provincial, National and Elite. Each athlete is encouraged to compete at the level that’s a fit for their ability, commitment and age.
Our youngest members are in a 12 month program. They ease into the training routine with 6-hour sessions, three times a week.
Later on they devote 9 to 16 hours to training each week, depending on their degree of commitment and competition goals. Indeed, once our gymnasts become interested in succeeding in competition, we suggest a minimum of 3 to 4 days training per week.
